A vory old resident of tho Rangitikei •district passed away at tho Wnnganui Hospital in Mr Peter Hampson. Ho had ■been in tho district for over 41 years. He formerly belonged to tho 57th Regiment, •and was 77 at tho time of his.death., At All Saints' Church this morning Mr A. Smith, son of Mr F. W. Smith, engineer, of Waipukuraii, was married Miss E. K, Grinton, of \incsbury North. Rev. 11, G. Rofiher officiated. The death is recorded of an old Thames pioneer, Mrs Elizabeth Eneor, who pass•ed away at the advanced age of %. Her husband predeceased her by £2 years. The old lady died on the anniversary of her husband's death.

Mr W. S. Furby, M.1.E.E., telegraph -engineer, who has retired on pension at his own" request, from' tho -Post a-njl Telegraph Service, after over 46 yeare' service, has received from officers throughout the service a-gift of a handsome roHertop desk. Mr Furby was the senior olliucr of tho wholo Department. The funeral of the late Mrs E, W. Collins was held yesterday and, despite tho inclement state of the weather, was very .largely attended, showing tho esteem and respect in which the deceased iady was .held. A number of beautiful wreaths were forwarded . The service at the gravesido was conducted in a .most- impressive manner by Rev. 11. G. Rasher. The late Mrs Collins had been a sufferer for several yoars past and bore her ill■jiess with great courage and fortitude. .Recently her condition became critical, .and despite medical skill and careful nursing she gradually grew worse and passed away on Saturday mornuig. "he late Mrs Collins leaves a husband and four sons and two daughters _ to mourn ■their loss. She was a loving wife i'nd_ an affectionate mother, winning the r.dmira--tioji -of her numerous friends by her many good qualities. We tender our sympathy to the family in the irreparable ioss they ihnve sustained.
