' ■;■ A very old established Palmerston business ,is changing hands to-day, .Mr H. Haydon, who_ has been connected with the commercial.life of this town for the last. twenty : two years, having transferred his business to-his-sons, Messrs F. G. and C Haydon,- who will trade under the name of Haydon Bros. Mr Haydon, senr., originally entered into the partnership with Mr D, R,. Lewers, having been previously conducted by Mr. Alex Fergu : son in tho, premises originally occupied by tho late Mr G. Snelson. -Mr Haydon subsequently removed to his present premises, in which he has carried' on business ever since. His two sons, to whom ho has transferred his business, know the trado thoroughly, the eldest son having been with Mr Haydon for the past twelve years, and tho other son having been in the employ of Mr Porteoug for a considerable time. Mr Haydon will continue to control the Victoria Insurance Company's business personally, having-■ secured an office for that, purpose at tho. Kar of his son's shop. We feel sure that the public of Palmerston' and dis- - tiicty'who have been accustomed in the • pact to patronise the well-known shop, will extend their support to the new firm ol: Haydon Bros., who start business on their own account /under very favourable auspices. Lambs were in demand and wero keenly competed for. With tho exception of three pens we placed our entry in favour of vendors, and ■■ quote as follows:—Backward ewes ' 4s, e:npty ewes 6s sd, small ewe lambs 7s 6d, others to 9s Bd, mixed lambs to Bs, ewes in lamb 8s Id, others to 8s lOd, forward owes 7s, light fat eweßlis, fat ewes lis Bd, backward wethers 9s, forward lambs 9s, cull ewes 2s, rams to 7s, mixed weaners 15s 6d, Jersey cross weaners 355, backward cows in calf £3, forward heifers £4 5:5,. heifers in calf £4 ss, springing hei- . fers .£4 15s, 2-year Jereov heifers in? calf £5 17s 6d, dairy cows £5, bulls £2 ', •10s. At Rangiwahia, on Tuesday, we-had -. a very good yarding of sheep, which wero keenly competed for, and practically all sold under the hammer. We had a ' good yarding of cattle consisting mainly of dairy cows, all of which wero disposed of under keen competition, We quote as* . follows:'—Cull lambs Is 6d,cull ewes 3s 6d, cull ewo lambs 4s 9d, mixed lambe 5s 2d, small ewo lambs 6s 9d, forward • limbs 8s 6d, backward ewes ss, ewes in limb 8s 7d, small 2-tooth ewes 9s 7d, 2tooth wethers 12s lOd to 13s Id. forward wethers to 14s, weaner heifers £2 17s, 18rnonth heifers £4 Is, 3-year heifors in calf £6 ss, dairy cows £4 15s, £5, £5 2s . 6<l, to £6 10s." Mr McClenaghan'e herd realised at prices from £7 to £9 15s, obtaining a good average. Backward cows in calf from £5 to £5 17s sd, bull £4. A ,- large quantity of sundries made usual ■values.
