THE WHEELER MEMORIAL.

I There has just been issued to tho mew bers of the New Zealand Romney Marsh Sheep Breeders' Association, the Hereford Cattle- Breeders'. Association, the Manawatu, the Eeilding, the Wanganui, the Hawke's Bay, and tho Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Associations, as well as the settlors in the Oroua, the Kairanga, the Pohangina, the Kiwitea, the Manawatu, and the Rangitikoi counties, a circular following up the suggestion made at tho Manawatu A. and P. Association's last Management Committee meeting that a .permanent memorial to

the late-Mr G, ft Wheeler should be provided. A special committee, comprising Messrs D. P. Buchanan (Beaconsfield), A. Conway (Kiwitea), and Ernest Short (Waituna West); .undertook to promote a fund, and it is these three gentlemen who have issued the circular. '"lt is felt," says, the circular, "that some substantial memorial should be erected to the memory 'of the late George C. Wheeler,- in recognition of tho long and exceptional services ho has rendered to' the Associations and, settlers whose interests" he always had 60 deeply at heart. A memorial worthy of the man should be erected. Itis hoped'that you will contribute to so worthy-an object. The committee will publish a- full list of subscribers as soon as the fund is closed. Subscriptions may :be forwarded to Mr E. Short, Feilding, or to tho secretary of the N.Z. Romney Marsh Sheep Breeders' Association, P. 0., Box 40, Feilding." An excellent start has just been. given to the fund by Messrs E. Short and P. M. McHardy, who have contributed £SO each, and Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Wellington) £2l, and Mr Short has been in Wellington this week advancing the interests of the fund. We understand that the memorial aimed at is a permanent pavilion for Romney sheep in the grounds' of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, and success is already in sight—Star.
