ADVANCE PALMERSTON.

The fine position Palmerston occupies as a centre has been further emphasized by the decision to remove the military district office from Wellington to this town. This action was taken by General Godley, the new commandant, after a visit to the town and conversation with officers who were able to point out its unrivalled advantages as a centre to work from. The removal of the office to Palmerston, which will take effect on April 1, will add to the town's importance. Among the officers to be stationed here arc the following:—

■The Officer commanding the district Assistant Adjutant General. General staff officer. Infantry brigade major, Mounted brigade major. Cadet officer.

Area adjutant. Also clerks, accountants, and others belonging to the office staff The "Wellington military district comprises Taranaki, Wellington, Hawke's Bay, Wairapapa, and Gisborne,. and its area ifi therefore very extensive. In future people who require to visit the district office must come to Palmerston and the change of headquarters will in several ways bo of material benefit to our town, the potentialities of which are greater than is generally recognised.
