• NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP REGATTA. (Peb Press Association.) . WANGANUI Feb, 26. The New Zealand Championship Regatta was held on the Wanganui River this afternoon. The conditions were ideal for rowing, but rain spoiled the regatta so far as the public were concerned. Results: — Maiden Fours.'—Canterbury R.C. 1, U.B.C. (Wanganui) 2, Wairau R.C. 3. Also started: Wanganui R.C, Star R.C, and Aramoho B.C. Won by over a 1 .length. Time 5.16. Champion Fours.—Blenheim 1, TJ.R.C. (Christchurch) 2, U.B.C. (Wanganui) 3. Won by two lengths, Christchurch a quarter of a length ahead of the local men. Time 10.48. Maiden Sculls-G. Scannel (Wanganui Union) 1, P. Thompson (Aramoho) 2, P. Clare (Clifton) 3. Also started: J. Bennett (Stars), 11. Pridlcaux (U.B.C), and E. J. Day (Wanganui). Won all tho way by a length. Time, 6.10£. Junior Fours—Canterbury R.C. 1, U.R.C. (Christchurch) 2. Picton finished second, but was disqualified for going outside the buoy. Time 8.20.' Champion Soulls—C. E. Stone (St. George's) 1, J. G. Marshall (Wanganui R.C.).'2, Anderson (Wanganui R.C), 3. Stone led practically throughout and>won by a couple of lengths after a fine finish. Time 8.48. Youths' Fours. —Wanganui R.C. 1, Union B.C. 2, Aramoho B.C. 3; Won by a.length. Time 5.41. Champion Pairs.—Union R.C. (Christchurch) 1, Union R.C. (Wanganui) _ 2, Picton were second, but were disqualified for going outside tho buoy. Wanganui also fouled the buoy, but finished the legitimate course. Time 9.8. Junior Fours (Best and Best).—Star R.C. 1, Union R.C. (Christchurch) 2. Won easily. Time 9.5. Champion Double Sculls.—U.B.C. (Wanganui) 1, Union R.C. (Christchurch) 2, Akaroa 3, Won by four lengths, Time 9.52. .-..:■■■ Senior Fours—U.B.C. (Wanganui) 1, Picton R.C. 2, Union R.C. HAGNEY BEATS DAY ON A FOUL. (BY ELECTIUO TELEGRAPU-COPyHIGIIT.) |Feh PbeßS Association.! SYDNEY, Feb. 26. A sculling match on the Parramatta. River for £SO aside between Hagney and George Day.resulted, in a hollow win for, Day. The race was. however, awarded to Hagney on a foul. It was a good race to the three-quartor of a mile post .whore Day had_ a length advantage. Day then crossed into Hagney's water and the latter with a spurt made up leeway and crashed into Day. At the mile, Hagney claimed a foul and refused to go on, Day finishing a quarter of a mile to the good. Beach awarded Hagney tho race.
