PETITION TO THE HOUSE.
A TOTALISATOR INCIDENT,
A petition was presented to the -House of Representatives yesterday by Mr Buick, 51.P., on behalf of Annie 'Treweek, of Palmerston North. Peti-
tioner states that she went to the Woodville races on February 23, and 'before the "Whariti Handicap was run she applied for eight tickets on the "horse Waitoto, number "4," but was handed five tickets on Waitoto and -three separate tickets on the horse :Skye, No. 5, in the same race. She -did not notice the mistake at the time, but the race was won by Skye. She
did not present the tickets that day, but did so on the following day of the races. The officials of the club, it is alleged, admitted that the tickets -were genuine, but refused to give her anything, saying that as the tickets Tiad not been applied for, and had not been rung on the totalisator on the -winner, she was not entitled to any dividend. They urged further that as the tickets were not presented on "the day of the race, the club could, under the "Rules of Racing/' refuse to pay .the dividend on those tickets. Petitioner stated a case to the Howke's Bay Metropolitan Club, which upheld the decision of the "Woodville Club. She asks that the House should give this petition serious consideration in the interests of the racing public generally.
