WELLINGTON, Oct. 19. | The Wellington Racing Club's Spring , Meeting was opened at Trentham in but windy weather. The attendance was j fair. Twenty-five bookmakers were licensed, and £9858 passed through the totalisator, as compared with £12,344 on the opening day of last year. Results: — RIMUTAKA HANDICAP, of 100 sovs; six furlongs. J. The late Mr Fried Swindells made a fortune on the Turf, and on one occasion lost £60,000 on the Stock Exchange. "Lad," ho said, on relating the circumstance, "when I made my money I pulled the strings myself, and when I lost it the other coves pulled 'em for me."
