THE NATIONAL PROVIDENT BILL.
{By Oue Special Repobteb.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 20. The National Provident Bill, introduced by Sir Joseph Ward to-night,, differsi from the Bill of last year. Briefly, it makes provision for the payment of a pension at the age of 60 years, pensions being limited to four classes: 10s per week, 20s per week, 30s per week, and 40s per week, according to the amount of the contribution. Persons cannot become contributors if they are in receipt of more than £200 per annum. There is also provision for allowances being made in respect of children where the parent being a contributor has died or has become incapacitated. Then provision is made for the payment of £6 to the wives of contributors- In maternity cases, or where a contributor being a married woman gives birth to a child, the Board is authorised to control the fund. It, however, may reduce the amount to the actual sum paid tor medical expenses. The total, contributions to. the fund in any one year are to be subsidised by the Government to the extent of one-fourth.
