BOXING.
There is a good deal of discussion taking place over the Rudd-Mitchell contest recently held at Hastings. It will be remembered that Rudd knocked out Mitchell in the first round, and Mitchell now contends that he does not forfeit his New Zealand Championship title. The matter has reverted
into a newspaper controversy between
the two boxers, and those conversant with the laws of professionalism will
doubtless smile at the very weak argu-
ment raised by Mitchell, viz., that - he was unaware he was fighting for the professional middle-weight championship. Anyhow, Rudd has affered to box Mitchell in his own town, Millerton; surely a generous offer. Jack Johneon has a brother, who, he thinks, has the making of a cham- - pi oh* in him. His name is Bill, vi .1 he has been the victor in several small matches.
