Campbell, of Hawke's Bay, has purchased the Nestor gelding, halfbrother to Flimsnap, lately in J. Sullivan's stable at Ashhurst. The youngster was sent toi his new quarters last week. He was bred by Mr Cameron, of the Turakina Valley, who . has given several good ones to the turf. Waipunui, a half-brother to him by Rip Van Winkle, and. Contour comprise the present inmates of J. Sullivan's stable at Ashhurst. The half-brother to Waipunui is five years old and is described as a likely sort. j Waihola, • last • year's winner of the Ashhurst Guineas, is being hacked about by his owner at Tokomaru. It is quite likely she will be jumped eventually. Beach went home on Saturday, and his place at Mr J. McKenzie's will be filled by Mat low, a full-brother to the Capt. Webb gelding. Beach has not been too successful on the track, and will be given '■several months' spell. At the Cloverlea Stud Elusion, dam of Rangipapa and others of Mr Buick's sprinters, has foaled: a:filly foal to Papakura, the first filly she has thrown. Queen Mary, by San Fran —Kiemary, has foaled a colt foal to the same sire. Both are reported to be remarkably fine youngsters. This is Queen Mary's first contribution to the stud. Mr Buick's horses for the Hawke's Bay meeting, Gold. Battery, Rangiatua and another, left Palmerston yesterday. They will be present at the Park meeting, which is the- only one at which Rangiatua, a two-year-old, claims engagement. At Wanganui last week J. Prosser had a two-year-old oolt by Kilcheran—Neva out for inspection and education. He was given a flutter in front of the stand, and won a lot of friends by his racylooking appearance and action. The colt is half-brother to Danube and Bunyan, each winners of the Wanganui Guineas. The Monoform colt Apellon will not fulfil his engagement in the New Zealand Cup, but vvill be kept at home for the A.R.C. spring meeting. At Glenora Park, Mr o'Malley T s mare Paeroro, by Gipsy Grand—Tempest, has foaled a colt to Martian, and this season visits Marble Arch. The victory of Danube in the Wanganui Guineas has earned him a 71b penxlty for the Hawke's Bay Guineas, in which event he will have to carry 9.3. The staff attached to the Hon. J. D. Drmond's stud and training stables annually consume 500 sheep, 40 pigs, and 18 Dullocks'. Wages absorb £4500. and yet some people* say it costs the big owners 'nothing to race." The Australian horseman Frank Bulock has just signed a three-years' engagement with the Graditz Stud to ride or the German Government.
