THE WATER SUPPLY.
The wet weather experienced during the pa6t twenty-four hours has flooded the Tiritea and caused the town water supply to have a most objectionable appearance. The water which flowed through the taps this morning was of a dark colour and contained a good deal of sediment, and the morning bath, it need hardly be stated, was not enjoyable. A prominent townsman called at our office to-day with a sample of the liquid, the condition of which he criticised in very strong terms. He thinks it is time th<e Palmerston Borough Council adopted a filtration scheme, and says the question should be faced immediately, even though a loan should be necessary. There is no doubt that something should be done in this matter. The water supply is badly in need of improvement. Had the loan proposals, rejected a few years ago, been carried Palmerston would to-day possess one of the best supplies in the Dominion, and the ratepayers are therefore not blameless for the present state of affairs. . i
