HOCKEY.

YESTERDAY'S GAMES. : The heavy rain in the early part of the week made the hockey grounds very heavy for play. At the Showgrounds the outside areas were unplayable, and the ladies' games could mot be gone on with. The Feilding ground was also in a very bad state, but the fixture there was gone on with. The long list of matches makes it imperative that no day can be missed for play. POST OFFICE (2) v. PHOENIX (2). Despite the fact that this match . was played on a slippery surface, it " was one of the best games seen on the ' Showground. It- was surprising how well the forwards played the game, and how hard the backs hit, considering the conditions. The result was a draw, two all, and the meeting of the teams in the second round should produce some fine hockey. Soon after the game started Boon got an easy one through ior Phoenix, and later he again scored from a pass from McGregor. "VYhen the spell ended -Phoenix thus had a lead of two goalis. Post Office put in some fine work in the second spell, and managed through the agency of Amos and Hammer to . equalise the scores, and so the game ended. Mr Warden refereed.

OLD BOYS A (6) v. FEILDING (0)

At Feilding Old Boys had an easy win over the country team—much ■easier than anyone, including. Old Boys, expected. The game was a mud Scramble from beginning to end. iTeilding's defence was weak, and the team generally was not nearly equal to the one which met and shook up Post Office a fortnight back. In fact the Old Boys' rearguard did little but. shiver all the afternoon, and the fulls hardly ever saw the ball. Of course, good hockey was impossible on such a ground and in such weather, but that was not sufficient excuse for Feilding's sudden collapse. Three goals were scored in each spell by the winners, and with better shooting the score would have been larger. Sim- _ monds (2), Webb, Anderson, Tait and Fitt were the scorers. Mr Giorgi refereed. PALMERSTON B (6) v. PALMERSTON A (1). The nimble J3's did what was expected of them with their A team, which is almost entirely composed of - new players. The game was not a brilliant one, the combination of the B's making it too one-sided. Mr D. Park referecd.

THE JUNIOR MATCHES. -TECHNICAL (4) v. CAMPBELL STREET (4). . These two teams met on the High . School "Tunnels. The big Blues played two/rc;s'. short, and their small op'<.'.pbjrfents The schoolboys played with great uash and pluck, and came very near winning the game, which . was well-contested. 1 HIGH SCHOOL A (5) BEAT HIGH SCHOOL B (0). This game was played on High School ground, and resulted in rather an easy win for A's. For the winners Simmonds (2), Aitchison, Whitehead, and Barnard* one each. Mr Foote made an impartial referee. POSITION OF TEAMS. SENIOR. Goals

*The match between these teams is . the subject of a protest.JUNIOR.
