ENTERTAINMENTS.

TO-NIGHT'S ORCHESTRAL : CONCERT. To-night the fifteenth season of the Palmerston Orchestral Society's successful career opens, and the concert promises to rank with the most enjoyable of its predecessors. Last evening the final rehearsal was held in the Opera House, and was distinctly successful. The orchestra is stronger than it has been for some time past, and it is to be further strengthened to-night by the addition of Messrs Percy Tombs and Frank Johnstone. Those who attend to-night are_ reminded that they will materially assist a successful evening by being in their seats a few minutes before time instead of a few minutes after. Ushers aro requested to be at the Opera House by 7 o'clock. ' Miss O'Brien, who is to be one of the vocalists, has unfortunately been indisposed for the past few days, but she has now sufficiently recovered to appear. She I is to contribute two songs: —"Melisande in the Wood" (Goetz) and "The Blue Alsatian Mountains" (Adams). HAYWARD'S PICTURES. ' The Zealandia. Hall picture home keeps going in spite of all counter-attractions, and has now accumulated so steady a following that it has become part of the life of a big portion of the people of Palmerston to see the weekly change of programme. To-night that change is announced, and it includes new and interesting items. The Pathe art study this, week is a dramatic entitled "Zingari." Real life is represented in the launching of the Yarra, the' first warship of the Australian Navy; in Paris by night; and in another of the popular Winter Sport series. "Foolshead" is announced again, and in one of his funniest incidents. If you want to laugh, see him on roller skates. EMPIRE PICTURES. By special arrangement with Messrs Thompson-Payne the Empire Pictures will be shown in the Opera House next Friday and Saturday evenings. Two entirely new programmes will be screened, that for Friday including a beautifiul coloured scenic film of "The Sumatra Rapids," and another entitled " After the Snowstorm." On Saturday evening the star feature will be "The Balaclava Charge," a :film which the Empire Syndicate hold the sole rights for. This picture is a most interesting one, and all the survivors of the charge are introduced to the audience collectively and individually. Each veteran' is shown with; his array of, medals. The remainder of the programme will be all new.
