MAORI STAMPS.

SUGGESTION BY MR. KAIHxVU. (Peb Press Association.) AUCKLAND, June 28. At the closing- meeting in connection with the Maori Conference at Waahi, Mr Henare Kaihau, M.P., stated that as soon as the district and the Maori Councils had been instituted it was his intention to ask the Government to prepare a special issue of stamps to be used in the correspondence of natives with natives, and also on all deeds relating to transactions in land, whether for sale or lease, half of the. revenue from the sale of such stamps to go to the district council at first, and after a time two-thirds, and the remainder to the Government to help to defray in part the expenses of the council and the Land Board as proposed.
