THE COMMANDER'S SUPREME EFFORT.
FAILS TO RIGHT THE VESSEL. STRONG CURRENTS IMPEDE - RESCUE WORK. Received May 28, 10.5 a.m. PARIS, May 27. Since the disasters to the Farfadefc and Lutin the French submarines have been fitted with buckles, and it is suggested that the Pas de Calais ehould have immediately attached a hawser to the buckle to prevent the boat sinking. M. La Peyrere, Minieter for Marine, who has personally investigated the drsaster, states that the Pluviose rose to the surface owing to the commander's supreme but fruitless efforts -to right the vessel, which was falling rapidly. It is impossible that the crew can now bo alive.. ' i
A strong current running parallel to the coast carried the submarine within the mail steamers' daily;'track. The currents are still impeding the divers. . Moreover the Calais tugs''are riot powerful enough for the work. The arrival of tuge from Chesbourg is boing awaited. The latest descents of divers failed to locate the Pluviose owing to the strong current.
