SYDNEY, May 25. Tho fifth contest for the Mars-Buckley Cup has commenced.

As a' result of the day's play New South Wales scored five rubbers and Victoria two. Heath beat Parker 7—5, 6 —3, but Parker, after a brilliant and exciting match, beat Brookes 6 —4, 3 —6, 7—5. The last _ game stood at 40—30, when Parker picked up cunningly a short-placed return from Brookes and lifted it! on the top of the net, where it fell into the Victorian court hopelessly out of reach.

America will .probably be unable to send a team to compete for tho Davis Cup to be held in New Zealand this year. The team is to compete in England in July.
