PEOPLING THE EMPIRE.
HOW THE MOTHERLAND MUST ACT. (By Electbio Telegraph—Copyright.) (Per Pbess Association.) LONDON, May 24. The Times' Australian correspondent cites opinions current in Queensland" and other quarters that the German immigrant is always considered before the English—being more amenable to discipline, which is largely due to military training. He is also more sober, reliable, and intelligent. The correspondent emphasises the*need for some economic remedy, making it profitable and healthy to work on the land outside the Motherland's overcrowded cities, and an educational remedy giving every lad a sound physical and disciplinary training. In an editorial article The Times declares : "The Motherland has faults to redeem. The Empire cannot be populated by waste products; but only by the emigrant whom we cannot afford to lose. The on© and only expedient capable of relieving our cities and meeting the Empire's needs is to send out our—town children while they are young."
