COLONEL KIRKPATRICK.
HIS APPOINTMENT CRITICISED

Colonel Kirkpatrick has been engaged as Inspector-General of the Commonwealth' forces for four years at a salary of £1500 per annum and house allowance. He is a native of Canada, and had a brilliant career. MELBOURNE, April 23. There is considerable indignation here among military officers over the appointment. Several Labour members have expressed disapproval. Their criticism is based on the idea that the appointment was arranged after the Government knew it was defeated, and also on the objection to. importing an officer for the post.
