A FALL THROUGH A SKYLIGHT.
SIGN WRITER SERIOUSLY INJURED. By falling through a skylight in Waldegrave's buildings, the Square, at about 1.30 this afternoon, a signwriter named iL I. Tew seriously injured his spine, and had to be removed to the hospital.
Tew, who is employed by Messrs Osgood and Hancock, had been working at a sign on the big brick building. He was returning over the roof to the ground, and having reached the onestorey portion of the building just over the alleyway, was getting through a window. His foot slipped on the zinc; he fell back, and crashing through the skylight struck the concrete floor twenty feet below with great force. The unfortunate fellow was picked up groaning and removed to Mr Wood's chemist's shop next door, where Dr Martin was immediately in attendance. An examination showed that Tew had sustained a serious injury to his spine, and his removal to the hospital was immediately ordered. Tew is a new arrival in New Zealand, having come here only a year ago from England.
