The first meeting of the newly-elect-ed Management Committee of the Manawatu Rugby Union was held last night in the secretary's rooms. Present—Messrs Hoben (in the chair), Pirani, Pawson, McWilliams, Armstrong, Hankins, and McKenzie (secretary).
The meeting decided to ask the A. and P. Association for the same arrangement in reference to the grounds as last year; and to get the fence removed back a few feet, as it is at present dangerous' to players. It was also decided to again engage No. 3 hall as a gymnasium, conditional on clubs renewing their agreements to contribute to the cost. It was 'further tliiouglit advisable that each club have a separate dressing room which it could look after itself and have locked for the protection of the players' belongings. 'Messrs Armstrong and Nelson were appointed with the secretary to look after the matter of removing the fences. The matter of a selector was held over for a future"" meeting. The chairman's suggestion that club captains should forward to the selector a confidential rep. team of their own selection was adopted. Mr Pirani mentioned that there would be a number of good men this year in the subUnions, and thought they should be watched.
It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Pirani, that clubs be notified to send in their entries for the Cup competitions before 5 p.m. on the 19th instant. Messrs Pirani and Hankins were appointed to draw up the fixture list for submission to the Committee.
It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Pirani, seconded by Mr McWilliams, that the referees be asked to report .to the Union such men as were playing out of their class, with a view to their promotion to a higher class— thus to ijieet the objection of men too heavy for boys playing in the Thirds and Fourths.
It was resolved to intimate to the Insurance Committee that .half of last year's fees only need be charged this season. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Pirani, seconded by Mr Armstrong, that clubs be notified that when they received visits from clubs of other Unions, the Management Committee would favourably consider giving the local club a proportion of the gate towards expenses. It was resolved to accept the entry of the Rongotea Club, and to write suggesting that the Sanson and Albion (Foxton) Clubs also enter for the senior competition, the Albions to play their matches here. It was resolved that the Referees Association nominate a representative to the Management Committee, who might talce part in all discussions but would not. have a vote. Further resolutions were: That the use of the Borough grounds be seeured as last year at a cost of £5; that the first cup matches begin in May, and meantime the A. and P. Association be asked to allow practice on the grounds free. .
