A CHARCE OF MANSLAUGHTER.
A man named Charles Harris, aged 54, living in Water Street, Brown Hill, was arrested at Melbourne on February 23, for alleged manslaugh--1 tor of his wife (Rose Harris, aged 46). Harris, who is a dealer, had occasion on the" 14th inst. to chastise his eon, aged 16, for going swimming without his authority. Mrs Harris interfered, and her husband may have ehruck her a blow on the head. Subsequently, the woman was taken ill, and was removed to the. hospital. It was found that she had an abrasion on her head, and, on being questioned, she would not make any statement regarding the alleged assault. Her condition became serious on Sunday last, and she gradually sank and died. Harris was at the hospital when his wife's death took place, and was in great distress. The hospital authorities made a statement to the effect that the deceased was admitted to the institution at 7 a.m. on the 15th ult, and that her husband, who accompanied her. said that she had injured her head by falling against a table.
