A sad shooting fatality occurred at Jnglewood, about 130 miles north of Melbourne, on February 23, about 2 o'clock in' the afternoon, when Mrs Puckey, aged 72, the widow of a late well-known raining manager, was ac- ( cidentally fihot by her son, Alfred, ao-ed 19. The son had been out shooting on the previous day, and apparently' took the gun (a breechloader) "inside loaded. He was in the act of breaking the breech, and by j some means the cartridge left in one i of the barrels exploded, and the whole charge struck his aged mother just I above the knee, shattering the limb ; terribly. A doctor was immediately called in, and stopped the. flow of blood. Amputation was considered . necessary, but it was thought the j shock would be too great, consequent- ; ly the operation was deferred. Though retaining consciousness, the sufferer never rallied, and death ensued the same evening.
