Mr W. Wakeman, of Pahiatua, makes a valuable suggestion. He says that if flaxmillers will remove the flowering seed stems from their crops the result will be that the strength will be transferred to the plants and the leaves will grow longer and stronger. He has made an experiment which proves this to be the case, and he suggests that the Agricultural Department and those interested in the industry should do likewise. Mr Wakeman points out that the tobac-co-growers invariably remove the flowering seed plant, and the vignerons thin out the grapes to improve their crops. Mr Wakeman has also been experimenting with a grass obtained from the banks of the Solway in Silloth, Cumberland. He finds that it makes an excellent fodder grass for sheep country and is specially adapted for bowling greens. A quantity of it has been planted on the Pahiatua green with highly satisfactory results. _
