THE GENERAL STRIKE.

Cab and taxi-drivers have abandoned their vehicles and the wealthy are driving their own motor cars. The police force has boon doubled, and every fireman is at his post. The authorities are preventing openair meetings. Many- large works are still not seriously affected. Some cars are running, guarded by police. Received March 8. 8.35 a.m. NEW YORK, March 7. Forty thousand men arc striking at Philadelphia, including the cab-drivers, bricklayers, textile workers, carpenters, plumbers and tailors. Received March 8. 10.35 a.m. NEW YORK. March 7. Further riots have taken place at Philadelphia. Many rioters were badly clubbed by the police, and there were numerous arrests. A woman was fatally shot. A MILLION DOLLARS SUBSCRIBED. TO CURB THE FEDERATION OF LABOUR. WASHINGTON, March 7. A conference of Washington's leading capitalists and manufacturers have initiated a National Labour Alliance to curb the political activity' of the American Federation of Labour and its interference with industry. A million dollars have alrearlv heon subscribed.
