The programme v. ill include a full rink competition on the principle of the "open door." a pairs champion of champions, and first year players. The President donated eight guineas for trophies for the Pennant winners, while he and Mr Carlow (vice-president) each donated four guineas to be devoted to trophies for the lir.st year players. Bowl-test iiig has not exercised the bowling authorities in Auckland up to the present as ii lias in the South and in A listralia. but the Auckland Association has decided that the time has arrived to take the matter up. and the .association has accordingly arranged for the services of a bowl-tester. Competitors in the forthcoming tournament have been'warned that their bowls will have to pass the A.P.B.A. test. Any team, upon the payment, of one guinea, will be able to enter a protest on the bias question, and if the protest is sustained the offending team will be disqualified. It is time something was done in this direction by the Palmerston Club, as there are several bowls used on the local green which badly require attention. _J I THE DUTHIE CUP.

To-day the lirst, round for the Duthie Cup. competed for annually by representatives from Wanganui, Wellington and Hutt Bowling Clubs —of which clubs the donor has at different times been a member —was conimcnccd. Hutt has held the cup since it was first presented, three years ago, and this is the third contest for it. Hutt drew a bye and Wanganui met Wellington. An interesting game followed, the teams being equal for the first fifteen then Wanganui .drew away, and eventually won by seven points. Scores: — Wanganui: Hoggard, Milne, H. Ilarri__son. Ross (skip). 22; Wellington: W. Muir. H. Price, 11. Hamilton, E. Moult (skip), 18. Wanganui: London, Collins, Robertson, Rodwell (skip), 17; Wellington: "Veiteh, Wylie, Bush, N. McLean (skip) 14. Wellington and Lower Ilutt tied in the aggregate, and a play off was necessary. This gave rise to a remarkably close game. The excitement ,was very keen, when the» Lower Ilutt rink, skipped by Mr Orton Stevens, carried ofT the game by one point. Lower Hutt has now to play Wanganui in the finals.
