ST COAST PIONEER PASSES.
MADE FIRST WATCH IN THE COLONIES. (Pes Press Association.) HOKITIKA, Feb. 3. The death of Mr W. H. Ingram, an old resident of Hokitika, occurred suddenly to-night. While having his dinner Mr Ingram suddenly collapsed, and shortly afterwards Deceased was an old pioneer, and jeweller by trade. He was seventy-four years of age. The deceased was born at Hayle, Cornwall, and went to. Australia in 1855 by the ship James Bains. He landed in Port Chalmers in 1862. and four years later removed to Hokitika, where he established his business. It is interesting to record that Mr Ingram was awarded a first-class certificate of merit for making a "Duplex" watch, which was Exhibited at the Melbourne Exhibition *in 1858. This watch, it is said, was the first ever made in the colonies.
