TARIFF REFORMERS AT WORK.
ANXIETY IN GERMANY. CHIOZZA MONEY'S DEFEAT. Received January 20, 8.45 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 19. The Tariff Reform League has chartered a number of motor buses which are perambulating the country districts with specimens of dumped goods. The Unionist papers contain cablegrams showing that there is anxiety amongst Berlin and Hamburg merchants respecting tariff reform, which is expected to change the conditions of German trade. Others rejoice at the prospects of freetrade being undisturbed. One paper expressee delight at Mr Chiozza Money's defeat, adding that his references to black broad and horse-flesh sausages are the laughing stock of Germany.
Mr Asquith, speaking at Leven, said the lesson of the polls was that in the new Parliament Tariff Reform would be a political impossibility.
