FRESH EXPEDITIONS. (By Electhic Telegraph—Copyright.) (Pee Press Association.} LONDON, Jan. 10. Sir E. Shackleton, addressing a gathering of German scientists and explorers at Berlin-, outlined a new Antarctic scheme over a fresh route. He begins preparations for the venture when his work on the last expedition is completed. The German Geographical Society awarded Sir E. Shackleton the Nachtigal gold medal. , , , T ,r , The Daily Telegraph's New York correspondent reports that the American National Association is inviting its 48,000 members to contribute to a South Pole •expedition. The plan discussed includes the purchase of the ship Roosevelt, and the proposed expedition will include as leaders, Captain Bartlett, Professor McMillan and Mr Borup, members of the Peary expedition. THE AMERICAN ATTEMPT. Received January 11, 9.40 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 10. It is suggested by Mr Hermon Bumpus, director of the Museum of Natural History of New York, that the proposed American expedition will approach tne [ South Pole, not by Sir Ernest ShackleI ton's route, but by Coode Island or 1 Wilkes' Land. The Daily Telegraph's correspondent believes the average American ie bored by Polar research and says that if the expedition starts it will take the easiest „ route.
