Tuesday. A meeting of tho Sehool Committee was held last evening at Mr Jones' residence. The following were present: Rev Wilson (chairman), Me"ssrs Penney, Sutton, Jones, Broadbclt, and Seddon. The inspection report for 1909 was submitted by the schoolmaster (Mr Bowater),

which must bo considered very satisfac-

Tory, calling for a letter of commendation, to Mr Bowator and staff from the

Education Board. The following are a few extracts from the report: —Organisation : Shows duo discretion exercised by the head teacher. Regularity: Satisfactory ; 86 per cent, of roll for last quarter. Instruction: Schemes and lesson programmes give evidence of thoughtful preparation of the work. Standards IV. to VI.: Much of thework of this room is superior in quality and no subject is below the average. Composition is very good, the pupils writing essays with correct and free expression and making a very satisfactory appearance in formal work. Standards 11. and III.: Miss Woodman has her classes well in hand, and they aro progressing very satisfactorily. Arithmetic merits special mention, especially is the results of successful teaching shown in the quick answering in tables and in mental work generally. Standard I. and Primers: Makes a good appearanoe in reading. The methods are along right lines, and good progress has been made in the English subjects. Discipline : Very satisfactory in all the rooms.

A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Bowater and staff for the good report obtained.

The monthly report submitted by Mr Bo water was as follows: —Attendances: Total number on roll, 130; average, 115.11; percentage of attendance, 88.5; admitted, 3; withdrawn, 2; highest attendance, 121. Miss Schoidt will bo leaving- the school at the end of November, having been transferred to Bunnythorpe. Miss Cartwright, of Foildng, has been appointed in" her place. The annual examination for Standard VI. will take place on Tuesday, December 7. If; will be necessary to appoint a supervisor. The school concert was financially a great success, the result being £17 towards the tennis court. Several accounts were passed for payment, and several letters received, one being from the secretary of the Wanganui and West Coast School Committees' Association, asking that a delegate should be sent to attend a meeting of the Association to be held at Wanganui on Thursday next. Decided that the secretary write for further particulars as to the aims and objects of the Association. The Rev Carlisle was asked to act as supervisor at the examination of Standard VI. Messrs Jones, Seddon, and Bowater were appointed a sub-committee to go into the matter of laying down the court. Everyone scorns in favour of an asphalt court if the finances will run to it. The summer holidays will begin December 20th, and school will re-assemble on Tuesday. February Ist. Messrs Sutton and Bfoadbcnt were appointed a visiting committee for the month.

The general committee meeting of the Horticultural Society was held in the Temperance Hall last evening and was very well attended. Mr W. H. Hunt being in the chair. Mr E. Newman, M.P., wrote saying he would endeavour to open the show, but would let the committee know definitely a few days before hand. Jn view of the uncertainty, it was decided to request Mr Lethbridgo to also be present. It was also decided to duplicate section 2 (cut blooms), open to nurserymen, professional gardeners, etc. This should add to the show greatly. Mr Opio is to be asked to come out and judge the art classes. A large amount of other business was got through, and as everyone present seemed to have their shoulders to the wheel the show should go with a swing from start to finish. The opening hour is to be 2 p.m. eacli day, closing at 10.30 p.m., with an interval from 5.30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

I hear that Mr Hunt has disposed of his farm down Jones' Line to tho Brothers Wilson, of Ohakca.
