HOROWHENUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Tho above Council hold a mooting on Saturday. A letter was received from 11. Lambert offering to maintain the Tokomaru Valley road for £15 for the year, after which he would maintain it at tho rato of 16s per week. —Loft to tho engineer. An application from J. Richardson for a slaughtering license at Shannon was granted, subject to tho approval of tho Stock Inspector. It was resolved, on tho motions of Crs Venn and Prouse, that this Council petition for permission to tender evidence Avhon a Bill for division of tho county is before the Parliamentary Committee, and that a copy of tho above bo sent to Messrs Field, Luke, and Wilfordj M's.P. In connection with this resolution, Cr Venn pointed out that if the county was divided, as proposed, the engineer, clerk, etc., would bo thrown on the ridings left, and it was duo to the Council to be hoard on tho matter. A committee should be sent down to opposo tho Bill. —Decided that Crs Vonri, Richards, Prouse, and McLeavcy bo tho committee.
At a special meeting resolutions wore duly carried authorising .tho .-raising of tho Tararua special loan of £850, and affirmiig that, by special order, tho interest on tho Shannon bridge loan bo paid out of tho general county fund, such loan being secured by a special rato over the whole county.
