SHANNON.
(Fbqm Odh Own Cobbespondent.) The fifteenth half-yearly meeting of the Shannon Rifle Club was held in the Town Hall last Saturday night. Capt. G. N. Stephenson occupied the chair. The principal business of the evening was the presentation of the Job Vile silver challenge cup to., Rifleman Sutton, who is the successful winner of this year's competitions. Rifleman Sutton was highly complimented on the good shooting he had put up, his score off the rifle being a very creditable performance for a beginner. Spencer made a very good show at Trentham last month, and was in the final fift-" to shoot off for the King's Prize. One new member was admitted to the club, which is gaining in strength steadily. Mr, J. Hallam read the balancesheet, which shows a cerdit balance of £12 4s s 4d. It was resolved .that the club should procure a' set of binoculars of the value of £3, a shooting bag, and a water-proof rifle cover as prizes for next season.- Mr Moynihan's offer of a prize was accepted with hearty thanks. The conditions for the same are to be drawn up by the shooting committee. The club resolved to alter the targets to the latest Bisley dimensions, and to encourage snap shooting and figure target matches. •
Mr Moody, who for many years has been a hardworking member of the Tokomaru School Committee, is contemplating a trip to the Old Cotmtry shortly. Messrs Ross and Redshaw's mill at Makarua- has been idle for the past few days, owing to the swamp being flooded and not having any flax in'-the yards. Mr A. Burge, of Palmerston North, is at present installing a washing machine, which he hopes to have in readiness by the time they start again. Mr Merwood has been appointed caretaker of the Druids' Hall. Mr Fourbister has completed the shed at the school for the children to put their saddles in, which will be a great boon during the wet weather. ' -
