N.Z CHAMPIONSHIPS. CANTERBURY WINS THE SHIELD. LPeb Press Association.,! DUNEDIN, March 20. Tho N.Z. Amateur Athletic Association's championship meeting was held on the Caledonian Ground on Saturday. Light rain fell at intervals, but the "weather was not cold. The heavy showers of the previous day and night left the turf heavy, so that no exceptional feats were looked for. There was an attendance of about 3000 persons. Results : — 100 Yards Flat Championship (final). — Woodger (Wellington) 1, Opie (Canterbury) 2, McWhirter (Canterbury) 3. Cook (Canterbury) also started. After a great effort Woodgel won on the tape in 10 l-ssec. Pole Vault Championship.—L. McKay (Wellington), 9ft Bin, 1; J. McLachlan, 9ft 3in, 2; A. Evenson (Wellington), 9ft 2in, 3. Half-mile Championship — Haskins (Canterbury) 1, Harding (Wellington) 2, Moore (Otago) 3. Eight others started. Thirty wards from home Haskins caught Harding, and beat him by three lengths, Moore seven yards behind the second man. Time, 2min 33sec. 12? Yards Hurdles Championship (final).— Kcddell (Otago) 1, Evenson (Wellington) 2, Cook (Canterbury) 3. Murray (Canterbury) also ran. Won_ by three yards, Cook a good third. Time 16 3-5 sec. Three-mile Walk Champipnship. Fitzgerald (Wellington) 1, P. H. Stubberfield (Canterbury) 2. A. P. Stubberfield (Canterbury) 3. Three others started. A magnificent race, won by inches, the third man half a lap away. Time, 22 min 58sec. One Mile Flat Championship —Steele (Canterbury)' 1, Haskins (Canterbury) 2, Burge (Wellington) 3. Seven others started. Won by three yards, with four yards between second and third. Time, 4min 38 3-ssec. 220 Yards Flat Championship.—Woodger (Wellington) 1, Opie (Canterbury) 2, Smaill (Otago) 3. Won by five yards, third man 12 yards away. Time 22 4-5 sec. . Broad Jump Championship.—Kidedll (Otago), 21ft 4in, 1; Rands (Otago), 20ft 9in, 2; Dansey (Canterbury), 20ft 7in, 3Three Mile Flat Championship.—Dickson (Canterbury), '1, McKnight (Otago) 2, Simpson (Canterbury) 3. Won easily by 60 yards, third man 100 yards away. Time 14min 57sec. Putting 161b Weight Championship.— Detheir (Canterbury), 37ft 7in, 1; J. Murray (Otago), 34ft sin, 2; McKay (Wellington), 33ft lOin, 3. Throwing 161b Hammer Championship.
