SHANNON.

A number of farmers from Koputaruu., accompanied by Mr Deans, of Victoria, visited tho Stat© Farm on: Thursday last. Mr Deans, who is a prominent dairy farmer in Victoria, came over principally to study the methods of those engaged in tho dairy industry in New Zealand. He expressed himself exceedingly pleased with the many features he saw in the farm, which proved of great interest to him. Ho was much gratified at tho courteous treatment received from Mr Drysdale and staff.
"Mr E. J. Judd is endeavouring to arrange for a visit of' the members of the Shannon, Levin, and Otaki -Horticultural Societies to the State Farm at an early date.
The cricket match between Manal;-au and Shannon was concluded on Saturday, the former winning by the narrow margin of nine runs. Tho first innings score was —Manakau 83, Shannon 130. Manakau's second attempt produced 93 runs, thus leaving Shannon 47 runs to secure a win, but owing to the good bowling of the Manakau team they were dismissed for 38 runs. The Bowling Club have definitely decided to postpone their tournament, at Easter owing to the date clashing with the Palmerston club's tournament. Tho holiday, however, will be devoted _to inter-club matches, and the champion singles competition, so a good time ought to eventuate One of our prominent settlers is endeavouring to form a first-aid class for the coming winter here, and a medical practitioner has already offered his services as instructor.
