THE GOVERNOR'S TOUR.

AN INTERESTING PROGRAMME

The following itinerary has been arranged by the Hon A. T. Ngata for Lord Plunket's forthcoming- visit to the East Coast (the programme haying met with his Excellency's approval): —

March 21 (Sunday): His Excellency will leave by the Government steamer Tutanekai from the Napier breakwater at 7 p.m. direct for Tuparoa. March 22 (Monday): His Excellency will land at Tuparoa at 9 or 10 a.m., where ho will be received by the Waiapa County Council. After luncheon Lord Plunkct will drive to Matahiia, where the party will be the guests of the chairman of the Waiapu County Council.

March 23 (Tuesday): Leaving Matahiia by vehicle about 8.30 a.m.. Ills Excellency will arrive at Waiomatatini at 11 a.m., where he will be formally received by the Ngatiporou tribe. The preliminary proceedings will take the form of a waf dance and liakas of welcome The vice-regal party will be quartered at the residence of Mr Henaro Mahuika, a nephew of the late Major Ropata Wahawaha. At 2 p.m. a visit will be paid to the Waiomatatini school adjacent, and later in the afternoon the chiefs and representatives of the tribe will gather at the large carved meetinghouse, Porourangi. A few speeches and appropriate songs will be given as, inter alia, the meeting is for the purpose of celebrating the renovation of this tribal runanga house. His Excellency will be asked to declare it "duly open.'" Tribal heirlooms, consisting of the swords of honour presented to the late Mokcna, Kohere, M.L.C., and Major Ropata Wahawaha, M.L.C., will be displayed for his Excellency's inspection, and representatives of these loyal chiefs and warriors will, with his Excellency's permission, bo presented to him. Old soldiers who took part in the Hauhau war and in the campaign against Te Kooti will also be presented. If. time permits the party will bo taken to the top of. Papatu Hill, above the meeting house, to be shown a view of the Waiapu Valley. March 24 (Wednesday): The viceregal party will leave at 8.30 a.m.. and drive to Rangitukia. where his Excellency will bo asked to unveil the monument to the late Mokcna Kohere. M.L C., and to visit, the native school, the largest in the district, where there is a workshop and technical work is done. Light luncheon will be partaken of at Tikiriki school, and the party will leave for Te Araroa at 1 p.m., being due there at five o'clock. A reception will be hold on arrival, and an address presented prior to the party boarding the steamer that will be lying in wait in the roadstead. (If the programme is too heavy the visit to Rangitukia will be cancelled.) March 25 (Thursday) : The party will land at Telcaha at 11 a.m. A presentation and the usual liakas of welcome will take place before luncheon. In the afternoon the party will bo the guests of the Rev and Mrs Paheu until returning to the steamer in the evening. March 26 (Friday): The party will leave for Opotiki cr Ohiv.-a. according to the tide. The programme after arrival at either of these places will be entrusted to the local bodies. The \\ hakatoheo tribe will take part in the reception. March 27 (Saturday) : Lord Plunket will leave Opotiki at 9 a.m., reaching Whakatane at noon, where a reception by the local County Council and the Ngatiwa tribe will take place. March 29 (Sunday): The Sabbath will be spent at Whakatane. March 29 (Monday): The party will leave at 8.30 a m. for Ruatoki, the capital kainga of the Urcwera Country. March 30 (Tuesday): His Excellency wil return to Whakatane and either take boat or drive or motor to Rotorua, via Te Teko.
