(Pee Press Absociatiox.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 9.

Mr Hone Heke, who lias represented the Northern Maori _ district in Parliament since 1893, died in a private hospital in Wellington this morning from tubercular hemorrhage, aged 40. Mr Hone Heke was born at Bay of Islands in 1869. Educated at Kawakawa village school, Oromahoe native school, Bay of Islands and St. Stephen's native school, Auckland, he entered the Government service in tho Native Land Court office in Wellington in 1891. Be resigned in 1892 to take up the leadership of the Maori Federated Tribes of New Zealand, which included all the tribes, except the King natives, Te Whiti's followers and the Tahuites. The object of the Union was to petition Parliament for Home Rule for the Maoris. He was elected for tho Northern Maori district in 1893 and has sat continuously for that electorate. He introduced the Native Rights Bill, a measure embodying his views, into the House in 1894, but it was rejected. Mr Heke was a well-educated talented man whoso accomplishments made him a genial companion and his early death will be regretted by acquaintances in all parts of New Zealand.
