The Church of England bazaar on tho Sth was a great success —financially and otherwise. The gross takings amounted to something over £45, which was exceptionally good considering the inclement state of the weather. The stalls were well supplied with almost every ,kind of imaginable article, while there were various side' shows and also the dispensation of tea and refreshments. The school children are working hard preparing for their concert, which takes place on the 18th. Having, by the courtesy of the head . teacher, witnessed a rehearsal my advice is "Don't miss a treat." The technical classes closed on tho Bth, when a display of the: work done by the painting class was held. Considering the, short time- the students have been at the work some very creditable pictures were exhibited. Great credit is due to Miss Mountfort for the progress that has been made. The exhibition the other day should surely induce new students to join the. class next year. All the classes conducted here have been very successful and fairly well patronised, but not nearly so well as they should have been, and I hope to soo a great many niore of our young people next year taking advantage of tho facilities offered for the advancement of education. Mr McCalmant. the contractor for the bridge over the Oroua river leading into the Mavton block, is making good progress with the work. All the pi!c3 are driven and a start has been made with tho deck. This bridge when finished will,be a boon to tho settlors on the other side and will supply a long-feit want. The work at- the .post office has so increased as to necessitate the appointment of another aasistant. The newly-appointr ed assistant is Miss .Strahan. .-The" .staff now consists of- the postmistress, a.ri assistant and a me-ssenger. The results of Standard VI. examination are to hand. The following gained certificates :—Proficiency—Alice Osborne, Charles Hunt. Competency—lda Cummerncld, Maud Stewart, Robert Osbornc.
