KAIRANGA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Kairanga County Council was held today. Present:' —Messrs. Voss (chairman), Hryaut, Moody, Anderson, O'Loughlin, and Talbott. CORRESPONDENCE. The following correspondence was received:—From the Rev C. C. Harper ,applying for permission to place a culvert across the footpath opposite the Church of England School at Longburn, and to remove the soil from the side of J. Walker's road. —Granted. From H. McEwan, stating that the Council's employees were removing metal from his property for which lie was receiving no royalty.—Account passed for payment. From Messrs. Kingsbeer and Capel, stating that the road leading to thenproperty at Fitzherbert West had been fenced off.—Decided that 14 days' notice be given to the person who erected the 'fence to remove same, otherwise the work will be done at his expense.
From G. P. Sherman, asking that the work to he done at the tiritea Ford he started a-s soon as possi-ble. —Loan money not yet available, but the Inspector was instructed to call tenders as soon as it comes to hand. GENERAL. It was decided that notice be given to Mr. Toxward to carry out the work as promised in Ill's letter by removing the bank on the side of the drain along the Bumiythorpe-Kairanga road.
Thai ii general rate of }d in the pouml he struck on the unimproved value in the Taonui Hiding, and Id in the pound in the Mangaone and Fitzherbert Ridings; also on the unimproved value, for the current year. Accounts totalling £715 12s lid were passed for payment. ENGINEER'S REPORT. The Engineer reported as follows: —Taouu: Hiding.—The team has been engaged effecting repairs on the P»un-nythorpe-Kairanga road, Foxton line, and No. 1 Line, and a man engaged a few days breaking stones. The watertable at Longburn lias been started, but work bad to be stopped owing to being unable to procure suitable men. The metal has been carted for the concrete culvert at Jaekeytown, and the work Avill be put in hand as soon as cement arrives. The Chairman and myself went over Gillespie's Line, and agreed to deduct £'20 and pay balance in hand to contractor and complete the road by day work, removing all spoil from side of drain. Mangaone Riding.—The staff has been engaged in general repairs, al.-*o assisting on the bridge on Milson's Line, which was completed early in the mouth. Mr Burgos has completed his contract on the railway road. The culverts have been put in and one bridge widened. When overhauling the bridges on the above named road they were found in a very bad state, it taking 1000 feet of timber to repair one. Mr Lloyd has just about completed his contract for the Summer road, Stoney Creek. A (advert on James' Line fell in and I am getting a concrete culvert put in its place, but owing to cement not being procurable I have not boon aMe to push on with the work. During the month 1 engaged Mr Lloyd'.-, team one day to repair Napier road, and it will be necessary to engage (earns ibis month to repair Napi<-r load. Kelvin Grove road and Cameron's Line. Fitxherbert Riding.—The staff lias been engaged in improving the bends oh Fitzhorbcrt East road, also completed the cutting on Moody's road. They also started the work on Cumin's road, and effected repairs on Linton road and Scott's road. The bridge over the Tiritea old road West has been completed. During the month I met the settlers at McGregor's nidi and gave them an estimate of the work they required. The Gorge road as tar as our portion joins is practically open to traffic, one bridge requiring a few more planks, which will be finished to-morrow. The cost of the work to date is about £280, including material and labour. On Friday last I knocked off nine hands, leaving lour to go on with the balance of clearing big slip. S. Blake, late roadman, being in charge. General. —Owing tostrutts being slack in the Awahuri bridge I am having them screwed up. Re drain at Stoney Creek, I do not think cleaning the drain will be of any use, the cost of cleaning it would be about £2. During the month I have not been able to inspect many of the roads, as my time has been taken up superintending construction of bridges in Gorge, Milson's Line and Tiritea. The roport was adopted.
