Per Prees Association. GISBORNE, March 28. .The phenomenal rainfall on Thursday cdusocl a tremendous flood in the head waters of the .To"- Arai stream, and extensively damaged'the upper portion of the municipal water supply works, which had just been completed. The flood carried away the pipe line for a distance of three miles, and piled tho pipes in fantastic positions high up on the bank. The former configuration of the valley is completely altered, and it will be necessary to survey a new line along the hillside. Th damage is estimated at probably £5000. The water supply has been cut off, and a temporary intake can easily be constructed to maintain the present pressure of 1401b.
