BEER DEPOTS.
Some time ago the Minister of Customs, making use of the discretionary powers vested in him, issued instructions that no more beer should be sold at the Collingwood depot (Invercargill). Time was allowed, howeyer, for the owners to sell stocks already collected at the depots, and in the meantime things are- going on as usual. 'Ufie of the depots, Roope and Company's, has already been converted i into a brewery, and it is therefore unaffected by the new regulations. The I other two depots, owned by Whittingham (Invercargill) and M'Gavin (Dunedin), Avill have sold out their accumulated stocks shortly, and then the owners will have to shut up shop or build breweries. The latter course is being taken by the local firm, which now has a builder at work on the erection of a new brewery, but up to the present the Dunedin firm , has taken no visible action.
