A thirteen-year-old boy, stepson of Mr John Galloway, of Motukiroka, has been missing sinco the 13th inst., an active search having failed to find any trace of him. The Collector of Customs is informed that three cases of kerosene marked G.G. over T. were found on the beach between Hare's Point and Mangawai after the recent gale. So far there is no clue. ' OIIRISTCHURCH, March 17. The City Surveyor has issued during February 56 building permits, of a value of £33.435. During February the following stock have boon slaughtered at the municipal abattoirs: —Cattle 1031 (condemned 13), sheep 7470 (condemned 7), lambs 1937 (condemned nil), pigs 477 (condemned 3), calves 363 (condemned nil). WELLINGTON, March 17. Between 25 and 30 . applications were received for the position of Inspector of Fire Boards, the salary being £500'. OAMARU, March 17. At the request of the Minister for Lands Mr Teschemaker's Kauroo estate has been placed under offer to the Government for closer settlement. The acreage of freehold is mately 19,113 acres, with 750 acres of Crown land and 600 acres held from the School Commissioners. It is already subdivided into .seven farms ranging from 800 to 5000 acres.
