The Manawatu Racing Club has engaged Mr Joseph Ames, of Wellington, to work the totalisators at its forthcoming meeting. Mr Ames had charge of this department prior to the silent machines being installed at Awapuni. Since then the club has had the working of the totalisatori. NAPIER RACES. ARCLIGHT WINS THE CARNIVAL CUP. Pel- Press Association. GREENMEADOWS R.C., March 17. The Autumn Carnival Meeting of the Napier Park Racing Club opened to-day under ideal conditions. The attendance was a record and ihe track very fast. Results: — Omaraiuii Hack Hurdles.—To Kamu 1. Reservoir 2, Bushranger 3. Also started: Commander. A good race. Won by half a length. Time, 3min 19 4-ssee. Carnival Cup.—Arclight 1, Loirct 2, Kairoma 3. Scratched : Marguerite. Sir Tristram, Aberration, King's Lynn. Kurawaka. A splendid race; won by half a length. Time. 2min 7sec. Esk Hack.—North Head 1, Ikon 2, Wonderbohm 3. Scratched: Gold Thread. Squatter. Dan Leno, Wharekura, Hydraulic, Yosami, Niwaru, Nguhere. Won all the way. Time, lmm 1 4-ssec. GREYMOUTII RACES. GREYMOUTH. March 17. Trial Handicap.—P.lessbok 1. Sylvrie 2, Coxswain 3. Time, lmin 7 4-sscc.
