Mr Deakin, at the conclusion of a speech on national defence, said the American fleet would receive a welcome such as had never been seen outside their own country. MELBOURNE, March 16. The Minister for Defence said the intended visit of tho American fleet is most gratifying to Australia, adding: " We feel our future in the Pacihc is bound up in that of America." In a communication to tho New Zealand Herald to-night, Sir Joseph Ward says: " I have made representations through his Excellency the Governor, and also the American Consul-General, inviting the American fleet to visit New Zealand."
