THE HOROWHENUA SHOW.
(Bx -Odb Special Reeosteb.) The attendance at the show yesterday easily constituted a record. Visitors were present from Palmers ton and all along the coast to Wellington, and included Messrs W. Field, M.P., and Ritchie, of the Agricultural Department. The afternoon was devoted entirely to competitions, of which there was a liberal number on the programme, and despite the fact that owing to the time lost in judging, as a result of the size of some of the classes, 'time ■was trenched upon, interest was well maintained till the last. As stated yesterdaj , , there was a general air of excellence about the. whole show that could not fail. to be impressive, but it was especially, apparent in the horse classes, including the competitions, which Mr H. Gillies,' the judge, stated were quite above the ordinary, and better even than those he had judged at the Dunedsn show. A statement'like this will occasion no surprise, especially, when the resources of the district and the energy with which the settlers have entered into the matter are considered." It is, however, distinctly pleasing, and there appears no doubt the Association has a promising future before it. -At present it has a list of 300 members, and with the signal success that has' attended its two first years there * seems no reason to doubt that it Will prosper financially, and also as regards the benefit it confers upon the pastor a lists of that district, who are being, as one of the officials remarked to the writer yesterday, gradually educated to take a bigger part in the show rings of a metropolitan fixture like the Manawatu. ■ The parade during , the afternoon was ocular demonstration of the progress that has been made by the Association since last year, and of the rapidity with which it is filling its objects and aims. The procession was headed by i the purebred cattle from the State insti- i tutions at Levin, and then followed, in apparently endless line, the numerous hoi see, ponies, vehicles, etc., etc., on view. The officials all worked most energetically to achieve success, and that they richly deserved the very big share that fell to them was the universal opinion of those present. Appended are concluding details: — HORSES. Mr Gillies had a somewhat difficult task in the horse classes, competition being keen right through.
