TENNIS.
'The* conoludingf -game' among "the southern v clubs for, the Association Cup I was played on the Palmerston North Tennis Club's courts on Saturday between Otaki and ' Taonui-Qhakea. The latter team proved victorious, the aggregate games being: Taonui 77, Otaki 67. At the conclusion of. the game, Mr .Bailey, senr., president of the TaonuiOhakea Tennis Club, in a short speech. •stated that he felt he ought not to let the opportunity pass of thanking the Palmerston Club for the use of their courts and their cordial treatment.' He also wished to accord the ladies a hearty vote of thanks for having provided after- " noon tea, and cailed/ on the , Taonui players to give three hearty cheers for the club. A match has been arranged between ! the Taonui Club and the Palmerston [ Club, on the latter's courts, and will probably eventuate on Saturday, 22nd I inst. j The Otaki team played under protest, !' owing to the Association refusing to allow them to play Kirk until it was decided whether a protest that had been entered against him should be upheld. Kirk, it is stated, played for Petone as well as for Otaki in the cup matches, and the rules of the Association are that | no player shall play for two teams in a cup match.
