CASH TRADING.
A new departure in this town haß recently been made by Messrs Permain and Gilchrist, ironmongers, who have altered )their system- of trading so that in future their business will be conducted on strictly cash lines. This system has been in vogue in most of the large centres for some time, and has been found entirely successful. On the 14th of last month Messrs Permain and Gilchrist brought the innovation into operation, and since then it has more than come up to expectations. The firm state that instead of marking their goods at a trade price to allow for losses and bad debts, everything is now marked at the lowest remunerative advance on the cost price. People are taking advantage of this in increasing numbers, and it is found to be better alike for buyer and seller, as the buyer gets his q;oods at a cheaper rate, and the seller gets cash where formerly the goods were booked.
