Joseph Henry Jones, appeared before Judge Denniston to be sentenced on a charge of having forged a telegraphic money order., Prisoner said he stole the money to get married. His Honori said he could not grant probation except in cases of previous good character, and deferred sentence for this evidence. NAPIER, December 2. November was one of the driest months on record. The total rainfall was only half an inch. There is still no sign of a break, and farmers are becoming anxious. AUCKLAND, December 2. The Talisman Consolidated directors have declared a dividend of one shilling per share, payable on December 21st.' •. The totafc paid is £165,000. Waihi Co. paid a dividend of 3s 6d per share today. ■ The total paid to date i 9 £2,839,432. GISBORNE, December 2. At the Juvenile Court this morning, two boys, one aged 12 and the other 10, were brought before the Magistrate on eight charges of breaking and entering? shops in town. In one case the boy admitted taking £10, most of which ho threw into the river.. The boys had hidden 52 keys taken from various premises. detective Maddern stated 'the boys had been reading Deadwood Dick trash, to which he attributed the crime. The boys were of respectable parentage and good homes, but got beyond control. Their parents pleaded for the boys to bo given another chance, and the magistrate remanded them till he ascertained the amount appropriated. CHRISTCHURCH, December 2. From January Ist to November 30th, 1906, the. births in Christchurch numbered 1922, tho deaths 811, and the marriages 776. For the same period in 1907 the numbers were: —Births 2171, deaths 1126, marriages 886. For the past month the births were 192, deaths 73 and marriages
