GISBORNE NEWS.
Per Press Association. GISBORNE, November 30. The Native Land Commission opened its sitting at Gisborne this morning. After investigating several Gisborne blocks the Commission proceeds by Bteamer on Tuesday to Awanui to deal with the Waiapu lands. In the course of the hearing of a case this morning the Chief Justice stated the only hope of the Maoris if they desired to live was for them to become efficient farmers, and if they did not do this, but loafed about, the race would die out. The annual meeting of the Gisborne Sheep Farmers Frozen Meat Company was held to-day. The retiring directtors were re-elected, with Mr DeCautour as chairman. It was resolved that | a dividend of 6 per cent, per annum be paid on all ordiiiary shares, and a bonus of threepence per sheep. The chairman, in his address, referred to the unsettled condition of the world's commerce, and stated it would be necessary to exercise great caution during the eoming year.
