LICENSING COMMITTEE.

The ordinary quarterly meeting of the Palmerston North Licensing Committee was held at noon to-day. There Mere present—Mr A.. D. Thomson, S.M. (chairman), Messrs W. T. Wood, M.H.R., A. Jack, J. M. Johnston, W. Beck, and 11. Palmer.

New applications for licenses were granted as follows : —Royal Hotel to George Searle (Mr Innes): Occidental Hotel, W. Graii (Mr W L. Fitzherbert); M. Kavanagh, Family Hotel (Mr Innes); Jane Adams. Cafe de Paris (Mr Innes); M. Eberhardt, Royal Hotel, Bunny thorpe (Mr Innes).

Renewals of existing licenses were granted as follows: —R. Mulrooney, Masonic Hotel; W. H. Overton (Mr Innes), Princess Hotel; T. Spear, (Mr Innes), Post Office Hotel; M. (Mr Fitzherbert), Grand Hotel; J. Dalrymple (Mr Innes), Junction Hotel, Longburn Geo. McDonald, Phoenix Hotel; J. Hurley (Mr Fitzherbert), Railway Hotel; J. Tait (Mr Innes), Clarendon Hotel} W. Devine (Mr Hurley), Empire Hotel; IT. B. Tucker (Mr Cooke). Club Hotel; T. Childs, Commercial Hotel; A. F. Anderson, Central Hotel.

Extension till II o'clock was granted in each instance except the Burnythorpe Hotel, which was not applied for, and will close at 10 o'clock.

Wholesale licenses were granted as follows: —Barraud and Abraham, Ltd., F. S. Goldingham, J. A. Nash and Co., U.F.C.A. In the case of Nash and Co., the license will be applicable, on Mr Hurley's motion, to the buildings on tho northern side of the Square. A report was presented from the Health Department dealing with the whole of the sanitation, etc., of the hotels in town. The several applications were considered in conjunction with the report, and where necessary were granted subject to the recommendations being carried out. In practically everv instance, Sergeant Stagpoole, inspector of licensed premises, expressed himself quite satisfied with existing arrangements, and he saw no urgent reason for the report presented by the Health Department.
