0 (Per Press Aesooiasion), CHRISTCHURCII. April 1. ' The employees of the Tramway Board are dissatisfied with the decision of tho Board to adopt the merit and demerit aystom of enforcing discipline as from April Ist, and to appoint W. G. Bassett, late of Auckland, as Motor Inspector. Tho met* mot early this morning to dis- * cuss the position and decided on future action. ' &fr. T. H. D&vey, M.H.R., presided, and there wero also present tho .President of the Trades and Labour Council, and prominent unionists. Mr Davoy and others exhorted tho men not to strike, and it was decided that he should organise a citizen's deputation to wait on the Board and ask them to reconsider their decision. The leaders of the deputation were also asked to make inquiries connfrning Mr Bassott. WANGA3NUI, April 1. , As u man named Bailey was driving a grocer's cartin the vicinity of the town on Saturday evening, he was bailed up by a man with a revolver, and his money .demanded. Bailey had only two shillings, which, he gave as an alternative to his life. The police have been searching for the highwayman, but so far have fojind no trace.
