An examination of candidates for engine drivers' certificates is to be held iu the jury room of the local Courthouse on Tuesday next.
The great musical event of the year commences on Monday, when the Dresden Piano Coy.'s annual sale of pianos and organs will be held. The splendid agencies held by this wellknown company and the reliability of the instruments they stock is so well known that there is no need for further description on our part. All desirous of purchasing should avail themselves of this opportunity and inspect the stock now on view at the local agents, Messrs Gr. H. Bennett and Co. Mr Brookes, the manager of the company, will conduct the sale. Madame Heller and Mr HellerSober, by special request, extended their visit here for a few days longer. Madame Heller will again lecture to-morrow (Sunday) evening at the Fire Brigade Hall at 8.15, the subject being, " Our Duties Here and Beyond." The usual tests will follow the lecture. It is notified that the 53rd issue of investment shares of the Manawatu Permanent and Equitable Building and Investment Society is now open. The Tiratu Sawmilling Co. have taken over the Phoenix Timber Yards, near the raiway station, and will promptly supply seasoned timber of every description. Mr J. B. Gerrand, watchmaker, jeweller and optician, announces that he has just received for the Easter season, a well-selected parcel of jewellery and solid silver goods.
